Interactive Way-finding with Apple's Location Awareness Technology
The California Academy of Sciences is a multi-level museum where wayfinding can be a challenge given there is no one preferred pathway. Creating a interactive map for guests using their own devices with location awareness is ideal. However, GPS accuracy is not reliable in a total concrete building.
“An opportunity to leverage Apple's latest technology at the time for in-building location awareness on their Apple Map.”
A team mapped the entire building, capturing the unique signature for each part of the building based on GPS, WiFi and Cellular signals. The in-house web development team then leverage Apple Map with the layered readings to create an interactive map for users to locate where they are and plan the route to the exhibit they want to visit.
